Tips for Setting Up Your Gallery
Here are some quick tips to help you tweak your gallery to look its best
» By default, each Gallery Page you create will be marked as Uncategorized.
To make your Gallery Pages show up under the Browse Categories menu at right, click the
Edit Page button and choose a Category for each Gallery Page.
» If you start to notice that your gallery page is getting really long, you can always
sub-categorize your Gallery Pages. First, create a New Page to hold your other Gallery Pages.
Then, for each Gallery Page that you want to put inside the new one, click the Edit Page
button and choose your new Gallery Page as the Parent.
» To move an Image from one Gallery Page to another, click the Edit button below
the image and choose a new Gallery Page for your Image.
How do I get my gallery featured?
The Featured Galleries on the front page are new or recently added galleries (Gallery Pages) which have caught my eye as being especially well-done, interesting, funny, or otherwise notable. Here are some of the things I look for when deciding whether to feature a gallery:
» Preview Photo - Choosing a good preview photo for your Gallery Page has a big impact on how much it gets looked at. Pick the photo that has the best looking or most interesting thumbnail of the group. Avoid logos or ad text in your preview image.
» Page Title - Give each page a good, concise but descriptive title. Don't put your own name/business/url in the title. Don't put your title in ALL CAPS.
» Page Description - Giving your Gallery Page a good description paragraph means that if it gets featured, the first few words of that paragraph will be displayed under the preview image, so an interesting lead-in will draw people into your gallery.
» Image Titles and Descriptions - These are an often-overlooked way to greatly enhance the overall quality of a gallery page by giving the person browsing more background on each photo.
» Overall Quality - Photographic quality (lighting, focus, composition, aesthetics, etc.) and well chosen photos are a crucial aspect of your gallery's appearance and quality, as is the descriptive text used on your page. A well-made gallery page will read like a short magazine article rather than just being a set of photos dumped onto a page.
